Description

A hard-working artist tackling every technique, painting, sculpture, collage, performance, and just as many materials, plastic, leather, metal, paper, Damien-Paul Gal reveals all the facets of the multifaceted artist of the 21st century.

Biography

Had he been born at the beginning of the 20th century, Damien-Paul Gal would no doubt have been a surrealist. In the 1960s, he might have been an activist like Jean-Jacques Lebel, inventing the happening and mingling with the avant-garde. But if you asked him, he would certainly have preferred to be born in New York in the 1970s, to engage with pop art, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. However, he was born in Brittany, and although he lives and works in Brussels, it is not necessarily Magritte’s fault. In any case, one can find in his question “In what Vuitton world?”, which appears in many of his works, a kind of kinship with the famous “This is not a pipe” by the Belgian artist.
