As part of the Ixelles Artists’ Trail 2025, the Josse Goffin Foundation, established in April 2024, opens the artist’s studio to the public — located at 47 Avenue Émile de Beco, Brussels — for a special visit.
Biography
Josse Goffin began his career in Paris as an art director for various publishing houses and communication agencies, before settling in Brussels in the early 1960s as an independent graphic artist.
He created numerous cultural and commercial posters, advertising campaigns, film and TV credits, magazine covers, record sleeves, and annual reports for both private companies — including Union Chimique Belge, IBM Belgium, Citroën Netherlands — and public institutions such as the French Community of Belgium and RTBF.
From 1987, he also turned to children’s book illustration, with works translated into over 20 languages. In 1992, he received the Grand Graphic Prize at the Bologna Book Fair for his book Oh!, published by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux de France.
His art — both clear and imaginative, poetic yet precise — has been celebrated in numerous exhibitions across Europe and North America, and widely praised in the international press.
From 1977 to 2004, he taught visual storytelling and satirical drawing at La Cambre, where he graduated in 1959.
Since the early 2000s, his freehand graphite and pastel drawings have been shown in art galleries and other exhibition spaces.
