Description
“Who am I?”
This eternal philosophical question drives me to explore the very essence of human existence.
Starting from this inquiry, I have delved deeply into the complex theme of identity, which I have been developing through a series of works since 2021.
These pieces combine the traditional paper of my homeland with landscapes from the country where I now live, seeking to express a unique sensibility that transcends time and space.
Reflecting on my own life journey, I realize that I have grown up in multiple contexts — family, school, society, and state — while fulfilling many social roles simultaneously.
From this multiplicity arose a thought: humans themselves are a superposition.
Perhaps it is the layering of memory, roles, and time that shapes the very essence of humanity.
This idea continues to evolve within my ongoing series.
These works go beyond visual expression; they carry a deep meditation on the multilayered complexity of human identity and its true nature.
Through them, I hope to awaken new questions and inner reflection in those who encounter them.
Biography
Since childhood, the small sketches in my notebook have sparked an artistic flame deep within me.
That spark never faded and ultimately led me to Belgium, on the other side of the world.
In 2008, I left Korea for Brussels, carrying a single dream — to become an artist.
Although the language and culture were foreign to me, my desire to express what I felt was stronger than any barrier.
My years at ESA Saint-Luc Brussels were filled with experimentation and challenges, culminating in my graduation in 2012.
My artistic path kept evolving, until in 2015 I chose to return to my roots — to Hanji, the traditional Korean paper.
For me, Hanji is more than a material; it is a living being, shaped by time, nature, and history.
Into it, I pour my stories and emotions with care and sincerity.
Since then, I have traveled between Korea and Belgium, exhibiting my work and striving to be a bridge between the two cultures.
Through Hanji, I reinterpret tradition with a contemporary vision, sharing its poetry and strength with the world.
It is a path I continue to follow — a journey without end.
