Description

I’d like to present my latest silkscreens and/or some monotypes. My work is centered on my immediate environment. Rather than picturesque landscapes, I’m drawn to nearby nature: weeds between two cobblestones, the silhouette of a tree in front of a building. Rather than represent it figuratively, I prefer to distance myself from reality and express the emotion it arouses in me. The eye, like a lens, scans the environment and settles on the detail that catches its eye. Then all you have to do is leave your hand free to give free rein to your unconscious. The landscape becomes a mere pretext, and the drawing says more about the artist than the model. My aesthetic positioning is rooted in the great masters of chiaroscuro, Rembrandt, La Tour and Caravaggio. My questions are: how to bring light out of the depths of dark colors, and how to use the subtleties of color to express an emotion, a sensation.
